To coincide with the release of Meryl Streep’s new film ‘Suffragette’, WI speaker Joan Cottle will be speaking about the Suffragette movement in the guise of Rose Lamartine Yates – Suffragette committee member of the Wimbledon Branch of the Women’s Social and Political Union (WPSU) in 1909, a branch renowned for its militant suffrage. Rose herself was arrested and spent time in gaol.
