Belles Go National

At the beginning of June, our President Amanda and committee member Sarah traveled to The Royal Albert Hall for the WI AGM. Thousands of WI members gathered to hear Nazir Afzal OBE share insights into the CPS and his work on high-profile cases like the Rotherham Grooming Gang. He also discussed his efforts to prevent violence against women and his support for various charities.

In the afternoon, Melanie Brown gave a powerful talk about her 10-year abusive marriage and her journey as a survivor, in an interview with the wonderful Victoria Derbyshire. The day concluded with actor Timothy Watson, known for his role as an abuser on the radio show “The Archers,” adding another layer to the enlightening discussions.

The atmosphere was incredible, and for Amanda, who is stepping down as President this year, it was: “a fantastic way to end my 10-year term as President of the Great Bookham Belles WI.”
