Grange Hill, QVC and The Good Grief Trust

Guest Speaker, Linda Magistris, was warmly received at this month’s meeting. Linda commenced her talk with an introduction to how she ‘started out’ in life. Billed as a current QVC presenter and the founder and CEO of the charity, The Good Grief Trust, our members were both amazed and thrilled to learn, that as a result of studying at Italia Conti, Linda was one of the original members of the 70s/80s children’s tv show Grange Hill. After viewing her photos, having grown up with the show, the majority of our members had no problem at all in recalling her role of Susi McMahon.

Linda went on to divulge that, as a result of the tragic loss of her partner, she had no option but to start the The Good Grief Trust last year, 2017, and explained how support for it has gone from strength to strength.

The Good Grief Trust exists to help all those suffering grief in the UK. We aim to find the bereaved, acknowledge their grief and provide reassurance, a virtual hand of friendship and ongoing support
Our vision is to bring all bereavement services together around the country, to ensure that everyone receives the support they need to move forward with their lives.

Run by the bereaved, for the bereaved, we aim to bring bereavement into the 21st Century and offer a fresh new insight into the way grief is managed in our country. http://www.thegoodgrieftrust.org/our-story/

The talk was very thought provoking and afterwards caused a short discussion about how we talk, or rather do not talk, about grief in our society and the need particularly for there to be training for teaching staff to assist bereaved children.

If you would like to support or volunteer your services to The Good Grief Trust please visit http://www.thegoodgrieftrust.org/support-us/ they would be delighted to hear from you.
