This month our members sung Jerusalem at their monthly meeting as our WI turned 8 years old!!
It was at age 8 that our guest speaker decided she wanted to be an author and years and professions later that dream came true. After a series of losses in one year, local novelist Adele Parks went to a therapist, who inspired her at age 29 to do what she really loved doing – ‘scribbling’! On the eve of her 30th birthday she sent in her first book, and as if in a fairytale it was snapped up – in fact in a bidding war! 22 books later ranging from Romantic Comedy to Family Drama to Historical Novels and now Physiological Thrillers, all of her books have made The Times top 10 sellers! The talk was an interesting insight into how Adele came to write, how today she plans her next book, the research she undertakes and the ‘interviewing’ of her main characters.
It was a great way to start back after the Summer and special thanks also goes to The Grange at Bookham for the delicious birthday cakes once again!
