Belles soar high in ‘Bookham takes Flight’ Village Day 2018

It was another glorious day for Village Day in Bookham, the theme this year was ‘Bookham takes flight’.
As always the Belles Village Day committee came up trumps by not going for the Birds, Bees and other flying insects etc and instead deciding to go down the aviator route. Our stall really did take flight on the day – winning for the 4th year running! This year, we were pleased to share the ‘Best Dressed Stall’ trophy with our peers, the newly formed Bookham Bees WI who were of course, Bees!!

It was an incredible day and our stall was constantly busy with young people wanting to win our Jolly Jars; this year they donned beautiful hand made airplanes made of pegs and lolly sticks. Our costumes, cleverly made by Emma Bavin, were absolutely amazing but the Great Bookham Belles WI airplane made by Gilly Phipps and Jacky Stedman really stole the show – everyone wanted to wear it!!!

We would like to thank everyone that took part and contributed to what was a truly great event!!

Netbelles 1st Walking Netball Festival

The Netbelles – Great Bookham Belles WI’s Walking netball team celebrated their 1st birthday by competing in a Walking Netball Festival at their home ground Manor House School, Bookham on Sunday 6th May.

There were 6 teams from around Surrey, Blue Swans, Sutton Evergreens, Horley Hackers, Allsorts & the Waddon Wiggers; the event was organised by Netball England.  It was a very hot day but great fun was had by all and supporters and netballers alike relaxed in the beautiful grounds and cheered on all the teams.

The day finished with presentations and refreshments with our own Terri winning a certificate for the best walker.  The festival was won by the Waddon Wiggers and the Netbelles came a respectable 3rd, a fantastic result for their first time!

Book group tour Bath

At the end of April, Members of Great Bookham Belles WI Monday Book Group embarked upon a ‘grand tour’ of Bath; the destination felt apt being once home of Jane Austin ( house with the blue front door).  From the Roman baths to Bath Abby and then to the Georgian era where Bath was the place to be seen, Bath is indeed a beautiful town with it’s Palladian architecture crafted from Bath honey coloured stone, and includes the Pulteney Bridge, Royal Crescent, Circus, Pump Room and Assembly Rooms.  Staying in the very upmarket Macdonald Bath Spa Hotel the Belles spent their time, sightseeing, wining and dining and swimming in the hotel spa, followed by more food and drink – in fact not a great deal of reading went on!! All who went said they would definitely visit again.
