November’s meeting was a busy one!
Exploring Our Rich Local History!
This October some of our members took a walk through time in Little Bookham! We roamed the charming Little Bookham Street, not because we were lost after a visit to Ye Olde Windsor (though we did start and end there!), but because our History Belles group, led by Ann & Sue, embarked on a captivating historical adventure right in our neighbourhood.
Little Bookham Street boasts some remarkable quaint historical houses right on our doorstep, with the oldest being Half Moon Cottage dating back to the 1400s!
There was even the added bonus, of chatting with a few local residents who graciously shared impromptu histories of their homes. Great way to spend a couple of hours discovering a little more about our #LocalHistory.
Belles Fundraise Through Local History
June’s monthly meeting took place at The Queen Anne Mansion of Fetcham Park where we raised over £400 fo The Bowelbabe Fund!
Scones To Die For!
There’s nowhere better to have a cream tea than Simply Scones The Grange at Bookham. Today was the 3rd time that members of the Belles have visited the local Bookham Charity, which cares for adults with learning disabilities; for some, it was their first. After hearing about the history of the house and its residents they sampled scones, including the flavour of the month’s apricot and almond scones, in the Victorian Conservatory. These had been baked on site in the morning by the people the Grange supports and then served by them too. The afternoon ended with a tour of the grounds and a wander around the walled garden and shop. Everyone left thinking if you hadn’t visited before you really should because it’s an amazing charity and well worth the visit.
