Exploring Our Rich Local History!

This October some of our members took a walk through time in Little Bookham! We roamed the charming Little Bookham Street, not because we were lost after a visit to Ye Olde Windsor (though we did start and end there!), but because our History Belles group, led by Ann & Sue, embarked on a captivating historical adventure right in our neighbourhood.
Little Bookham Street boasts some remarkable quaint historical houses right on our doorstep, with the oldest being Half Moon Cottage dating back to the 1400s!
There was even the added bonus, of chatting with a few local residents who graciously shared impromptu histories of their homes. Great way to spend a couple of hours discovering a little more about our #LocalHistory.

Charity leatherhead start cheque

A Lucky Night

It was great to be back after the Summer and it was wonderful to welcome Myfanwy back from Leatherhead Start to give her a cheque for £1330 and a large donation of cleaning products as our fundraising for them came to an end. She was absolutely thrilled by the Belles generosity and this money has been ringfenced to provide a Drug & Alcohol support worker for their clients! Our September meeting was kicked off with a fabulous speaker, Super Lucky Di Coke a ‘Comper’. A #Comper is someone who makes a career out of entering and winning competitions. She shared with us her fantastic story of how she started and of all the wonderful prizes she has won so far – totalling around £300,000, including a car; holidays; trips to restaurants and football tickets- it was fascinating. She gave us the highs and lows of how to be a Comper & left us with her book ‘Super Lucky Bootcamp’ from which she generously donated all the proceeds to our next chosen charity.

Triumelephant On Safari

Thank you to all our members and customers who made #Bookham#VillageDay2023 such a success. Our stall looked fantastic and received much praise, dressed in the Jungle Jolly Jars and decorations made during our May Monthly Meeting. With the added bonus of our Jumbo Elephant and Rangers we were delighted to win the cup for this year’s On Safari #BestDressedStall and to raise money for the upkeep of Bookham’s Old Barn Hall.

Tea and Scones 2023 June

Scones To Die For!

There’s nowhere better to have a cream tea than Simply Scones The Grange at Bookham. Today was the 3rd time that members of the Belles have visited the local Bookham Charity, which cares for adults with learning disabilities; for some, it was their first. After hearing about the history of the house and its residents they sampled scones, including the flavour of the month’s apricot and almond scones, in the Victorian Conservatory. These had been baked on site in the morning by the people the Grange supports and then served by them too. The afternoon ended with a tour of the grounds and a wander around the walled garden and shop. Everyone left thinking if you hadn’t visited before you really should because it’s an amazing charity and well worth the visit.
